What constitutes good assessment in higher education?
What does research tell us, and what more do we need to know?
David Boud and Phillip Dawson
Deakin University
Assessment has been changing rapidly in recent years due to global social influences. There is an increasingly good base of research on assessment in higher education. These two influences together cause us to rethink what constitutes good assessment. This seminar will address the implications of the new context and what we currently know, and identify directions to take in practice and in further research.
About CRADLE
The Centre for Research on Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) is a new research centre at Deakin University. The Centre focuses on the study of assessment in higher education and it takes into account an environment that is increasingly digitally enabled. Assessment is viewed as a powerful influencer of what students do and how they perceive their studies. Research on assessment is viewed both as contributing to scholarship and to influencing practice. CRADLE is part of the emphasis at Deakin University on establishing itself as the leading university for research-based teaching, learning and assessment. CRADLE is located in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and based on the City campus.
This is the first public event of CRADLE. It will introduce the staff and their focus, and provide an opportunity to discuss new directions in assessment.
David Boud is Professor and Director of the Centre for Research on Assessment and Digital Learning. He is also Emeritus Professor at the University of Technology, Sydney
Phill Dawson is Associate Professor and Associate Director of CRADLE
